Aloo Tikki is an popular street food in India. It is served as evening snack and also as starter. I already have a recipe for this in my blog, but this one is a simplified version of it. Here is the simple recipe of Aloo Tikki which pairs well with coriander Chutney.
Ingredients for Aloo Tikki:
- Boiled Potatoes – 500gms
- Chilli flakes – 1/2 tsp
- Ground Cumin – 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
- grated Ginger – 1 tsp
- Chopped coriander – 2 TBSP
- Rice Flour – 3 TBSP
- salt for taste
- Cashew Nuts – 10 (optional)
Method for Aloo Tikki:
- Add boiled de-skinned potatoes to a bowl. Grate the potatoes using grater or you can mash them roughly.
- Add Ingredients from 2 – 8 and mix them well and allow this mixture to rest in the refrigerator for half an hour.
- Now make them in to small balls (approx 15 numbers ) and flatten them about 1/2 an inch thickness. optionally you can also add chopped nuts to the mixture or add it to the patties on top.
- Now the Tikki’s/Patties can be shallow fried in the pan. Take a frying pan and add about a cm of oil.
- Once the oil is hot add the patties and cook them for about 4 mins on each side in medium flame.
- Once it is ready drain the patties in kitchen towels and serve them with your favourite chutneys.
Ingredients for Coriander Chutney:
- Corriander 1 small bunch
- ground Cumin – 1/2 tsp
- Green chilli – 1
- Lemon – 1/2 juice of lemon/lime
- Garlic – 1 clove
- Salt as required
- Sugar – 1/2 tsp (optional)
Method for Coriander Chutney:
- Wash the coriander leaves and chop them roughly.
- Add the chopped leaves to the blender and add ingredients from 2 – 7 and grind them.
Aloo tikki is a crispier on the outside and soft on the inside. Rice flour is added to achieve the crispiness. If you don’t have rice flour, as a substitute you can also add breadcrumbs, semolina or corn flour.
Enjoy Aloo Tikki with Coriander Chutney!
