Butterfly Happy Birthday Cake

29 Sep

Okay!!! This Butterfly cake is the final one, I made for Riya’s 5th day. I was more interested in cake decorating rather than baking, So I bought the ready made flat circular cakes from the shop(also called as Biscuit boden).  It was 5 layered cake and each layer was about an inch thickness of 24cm diameter. The idea of making Butterfly started here . The first thing which attracted me is that, to cut the circular shaped cake in to a butterfly model without wasting a single bit of cake. The decoration I did by myself.

The icing I had chosen is a Vanilla Butter cream icing . More than the time I took to decorate, I spent lot of time in search of the perfect candy’s to decorate on butterfly. The children liked the little red bugs and the cake. I also used a Strawberry flavoured candy spray on wings side. After spreading the pink, blue and green for the wings, I also used a piping cone to outline the 3 coloured wings.Since I am in the experimenting phase, it didn’t come quite perfect, hope it will get improve.

Sending this colourful cake to the event in Akila’s Kitchen. She has got good collection of seafood recipes.

Pound Cakes with Spaghetti Butter cream Icing

19 Sep

As we know, Birthday is a special occasion which is normally celebrated once in a year. Some of them are really lucky and gifted to do it more than time in a single year. Riya is one of those luckiest and celebrated her 5th Birthday 3 times. Though it took more time for preparation, she did enjoy this way with few friends at a time. The First one,  we invited few of her close Kindergarten friends to home and we did celebrate with Princess castle cake. The Second one she did celebrate in her Kindergarten itself with all the children, as this is a custom in her Kindergarten. The third celebration was again at home we did invite children from our family friends and celebrated with a surprise Cake which will be posted next.

So the last whole week is a fun filled week for her. As a part of celebration in her Kindergarten,  Riya has to sponsor some of food item to her friends. So to impress little friends of Riya, I ended up in making this beautiful little piece of cake decorated with Butter cream icing and sugar sprinkles. To be honest it was very easy and effortless to make this spaghetti decoration. I also did get the feedback from her when she was back from  school saying, children did enjoy, some girls did pick up pink colors, some boys did pick blue color and  others liked green and yellow. Together with this they did enjoy store bought Ice creams pops.

I did name it as Spaghetti Butter cream icing as I did remember of Spaghettice cream when making this. Spahettieis is one of those favorite ice creams which is sold in Ice cream parlor and Restaurants here.  Of course, for German Children including Riya, one of the top most favorite food among the list is Spaghetti with Tomato sauce, Bologenese sauce and so on.

Here is the recipe

Princess Castle Happy Birthday Cake

09 Sep

We celebrated Riya’s 5th Birthday yesterday with her kindergarten friends. She was extremely happy and excited and literally counting days and nights for her birthday. I think for kids at this age, every next year they are getting into, is quite an excitement. So to surprise her, I made this Princess castle cake and she did love it. I used my cake recipe from here. The whole idea started from here but I used my own decoration. Though it didn’t look so perfect, I was glad when Riya identified it as castle cake. Over the castle tower I did spray dark pink color. The Frosting I used is a  Butter cream icing.

Here is the Recipe for Butter cream icing.

Ingredients:

  1. Butter – 1 cup
  2. Shortening – 1 1/2 cup
  3. Powdered Sugar – 1 1/4 cup
  4. Pink Food color – few drops
  5. Milk – 2 Tbs
  6. Vanilla Essence – a little

Method:

1. Add Butter and shortening in a bowl and beat it with a electric mixer until frothy.

2. Add Sugar little by little and continue whisking.

3. Add milk and continue whisking for about 10 – 15 minutes.

Magdalenas – Spanish Cuppy Cake & (Gl’ories Torre Agbar)

22 Jun

Magdalenas are Spanish tea cakes which has a fresh lemon flavour and medium sweetness. I have been fond of these Magdalenas, when I first tasted here in German ALDI shop. The following recipe yields 10 cup cakes.

Ingredients:

  1. All purpose flour – 1 1/2 cup
  2. Egg – 1
  3. Sugar – 1/2 Cup
  4. Milk – 1/4 cup
  5. Baking Powder – 1/2 tsp
  6. Margarine – 3 Tbs
  7. Lemon peels – 1 Tbs
  8. A little Sugar for sprinkling

Method:

1. Add the egg to a bowl and beat it with a whisker. Add the margarine to it and mix it well.

2. Add the sugar , baking powder, milk, lemon peel and flour to the above mixture slowly and mix it well.

3. Spoon this mixture to a muffins tin. Fill up only 3/4, as it would puff it up to full after baking. Now sprinkle little sugar crystals on top of the cup cakes.

4. Preheat the oven and bake it for 20 minutes at 180 C.

Gl’ories Torre Agbar

This Akbar tower is one of the tourist attraction and it is the 3rd largest buildings in Barcelona. It houses many offices and luxury Hotels. This building looks adorable in the night, when it is illuminated by the 4500 LED lights which is attached to its glass wall.

We saw it only in the day time. But we did see the night view pictures of this Akbar building. The most prominent color was blue and red. If you are visitng Barcelona just dont miss this massive building.
