Quick Tamarind Rice

Tamarind Rice can be prepared instantly with Cooked rice and puliyogare ready mix available in the shop. OR the gravy can be prepared at home or store-bought when needed it can be mixed with Rice. But when you don’t have either one of the above, you can follow this quick recipe method as it takes less time and tastes good.

Ingredients:

  1. Rice – 2 cups
  2. Tamarind – 1 lemon sized ball
  3. Oil - 4 tsp
  4. Mustard – 1 Tsp
  5. Urad dhal – 2 Tsp
  6. Chenna Dhal – 2 Tsp
  7. Peanut – 1/4 cup
  8. Dry red chili – 2 nos
  9. Asafoetida – 1/4 Spoon
  10. Curry leaves – 2 Strand
  11. Turmeric – 1/ 4 Spoon
  12. Salt as required for taste.

Method :

1. Cook the rice with water for 1: 1 1/2 cups in a pressure cooker.

2. Add tamarind with 1/4 cup of warm water and extract the juice of it.

3. In a bowl add the rice and tamarind  juice and required salt and mix it well. Let it be aside for at least 2 hours.

4. In a hot pan, add oil and mustard seeds and let it crackle. Now add urad dhal, chenna dhal, and let it cook for 2 minutes in slow heat.

5. Now add peanut and fry for a minute. Add asafoetida, turmeric and curry leaves and stir for a minute.

6. Add the tamarind rice to the pan and cook for about five minutes. It is ready to be served.

Tip: This kind of preparation is the best option for leftover rice. The tamarind juice and rice can sit together overnight to yield better taste.
